The Red Thread Print E-mail
Monday, 03 April 2006
Dear Nancy and Val,

Please tell the girls (Serene and Pearl) just how much I love this song!! ( “It’s Your Blood” from their CD Soothe Me available from Above Rubies PO Box 5604 Manly QLD 4179 for $24.95)

I have been asked to share on Mother's Day at our church.
I am preparing an audio/visual presentation. I will play this song while showing still life photos of mothers at our church with their children. With each photo there will be a red flowing piece of material. The photos will be black and white, with the material red (representing the blood of Jesus). (Like the little girl in the movie Schindler's list)
One lady is about to have a baby - so we'll wrap the baby in the red material for her photo. We will visit homes and ask the Mums to hold up the material over their doorposts.
This is the message I'll share before the song is played...

The red thread

Proverbs 31 is often read on Mother’s Day. However, I only want to read one verse from that chapter. Proverbs 31:21 She is not afraid of the snow for all her family is clothed in scarlet.

Since we don’t have snow here in Nth Queensland, let me describe what a NZ winter is like:

Cold, wet , rainy, cold, wet, raining – and in some places it snows.

We need to prepare for winter – make sure we have enough firewood

- make sure we have warm clothing.

In the spiritual we need to prepare for winter:

The Bible clearly states that things will get worse in this world prior to the coming of the Lord Jesus Christ.

But the woman who is prepared will not be afraid. She will not fear.

Why?

Because her family are all clothed in scarlet!

Clothed in Scarlet is a representation of the blood of Jesus

Here is a woman who is not afraid because she knew that if she applies the blood, her family will be protected.

There is a red thread running throughout Scripture. From Genesis to Revelation we find hundreds of mentions of this ‘red thread’.

Genesis – when Adam and Eve committed the first sin – blood was shed so they could be covered. God did it. The covering of the blood is God’s doing.

When Moses was about to lead the children of Israel out of Egypt – the people were told to place the blood of the lamb on their doorposts.

A lamb for a house! – Jesus, the Lamb of God was sacrificed not only for you but your entire family.

While the angel of death visited the Egyptian households killing every firstborn child, the Israelites went to bed and slept soundly – because they trusted in the blood. They knew that when the angel of death saw the blood, he would pass over that home.

How much more are we – who have been redeemed by the blood of Jesus, washed in His blood – be protected when the enemy comes? I wonder just how many times potential harm has ‘passed over me’ because I had parents who pleaded the blood over me. Every day my parents prayed for us. Nothing serious has happened to any one of us.

You may never know this side of eternity what has ‘passed over ‘ your children – because you plead the blood.

The old song – there is power in the blood. Power to cleanse me from every stain. Power to protect and cover me, AND my household.

Rahab’s red cord that she hung outside her window – was a sign – so when the powers of darkness were unleashed – her home remained safe.

Grandmothers and mothers, when the Enemy comes in like a flood, will he see the red cord dangling from your window?

When the blood is applied – the whole household remains safe.

How do we apply the blood in our families?

Prayer..............
